A man named Barney was trying to figure out whether Matilda is dead or alive. Matilda fad feverish dreams and dreamed that she has yellow fever and is in a hospital. When Matilda woke up Mrs. Flagg tells her that her grandfather has recovered so her grandfather visited her. Once he visited her he went on and flirted with Mrs, Flagg. Matilda realized that she is at a Brush Hill, a mansion that was turned into a hospital for people with Yellow Fever. Matilda heard stories about the fever in Philadelphia and thought about her friends and family. Matilda was informed by a Clerk that they cannot inform her Mother so her grandfather volunteered to be her guardian. Once Matilda and her grandfather said goodbye to the hospital and came back to the coffeehouse, the coffeehouse was robbed. Matilda ran up to her room and everything was in place. Matilda checked the cashier register and all the money was there. Matilda took a bath and dressed in her Mothers clothes because she didn't have her nice clean clothes. Later on Mattie decided to sleep downstairs and opened her grandfathers Bible. Once she went to sleep she went   to sleep she heard the burgles planning their plan. Once they broke in they took grandfathers sword and realized that there is someone in the coffeehouse. Grandfather attacked  them and Mattie threatens them.After grandfathers attack he was injured and died.  Mattie realized that she had to bury him and after the burial she wondered where to go so she went to the hat shop. A girl tells Mattie that her Mother is broken. Matilda went to Fifth Street and she thought she saw Eliza and she did! Eliza and Mattie were reunited. After they reunited Eliza took Matilda to her brother Joseph. Matilda got to meet Josephs Mother Mrs. Smith. When everyone fell asleep Matilda told Eliza the whole story. Matilda and Eliza took Nell to the orphan house. After Matilda and Eliza took Nell to the orphan house Eliza told Matilda gossip about the Ogilive. Matilda helped Eliza care for some people with the fever.Matilda and Eliza spend their rest of the fay taking care of the Sharp family. The next day the two started working as nurses so Eliza suggested to find a doctor to bleed the children but Matilda was against that. When Matilda went outside to get more water she fell asleep in the garden. Later, a messenger from Joseph arrived with more food Mrs. Epler told Matilda that her Mother is missing and that she will ask for her. Nathaniel became a constant visitor at the coffeehouse. Nathaniel and Matilda went for a walk and visited her grandfathers grave in the meantime Eliza suggested a thanksgiving feast. Joseph was wondering if Matilda was selling the coffeehouse. The coffeehouse opens and business in booming and Mattie became pensive. all of a sudden Nathaniel burst through the door and said that President Washington is coming down High Street and Matilda gives him a big kiss. Mattie saw her Mother in country clothes, Matilda and her Mother were . Maildas Mother asked about what happened to grandfather and she told him everything. Mother asked her to help upstairs to rest.
